The statue was stolen in 1969 (estimated value at the time: ATS 100,000). The robbery devalued the chapel, which was then no longer maintained.
After Reinhold Hüttmann had carved a new Madonna out of stone pine, the owner took on the task of drying out the building, plastering it again and renovating the wrought iron grille.
