This hut is fantastically secluded with an overwhelming panorama. The food is very good. The staff is very friendly.

Puez-Odle Nature Park Trail 5 from Passo Croce to Rifugio Notia Ciamcios

    14.3km

    890m

This difficult hike, Puez-Odle Nature Park Trail 5, covers 8.9 miles (14.3 km) with a significant 2901 feet (884 metres) of elevation gain, taking about 5 hours and 12 minutes to complete. You will trek through the heart of the Puez-Odle Nature Park, experiencing the rugged beauty of the northwestern Dolomites. The route offers amazing views, including the dramatic Geisler peaks rising above the Villnöss Valley. You will also see the impressive Heiligkreuzkofel massif stretching towards Alta Badia, showcasing typical dolomite rock formations. Along the way, you might hear the whistling of playful marmots, adding to the alpine atmosphere.

To begin this adventure, you can reach the trailhead from various points in Val Gardena or Val di Funes. Parking is available at designated areas, which helps support trail maintenance in the park. Plan your visit carefully, as this is a demanding route that requires good physical condition. Starting early in the day is advisable to allow ample time to complete the hike before dusk.

The trail leads you to Passo Croce, a special crossing point where a small wooden cross honors Saint Josef Freinademetz. Here, a display names every surrounding peak, offering a clear orientation of the majestic landscape. You will also pass the charming Medalges Alm, where a friendly family serves homemade Kaiserschmarren, cheese, and yogurt. The route also features the unique Arexport Art Installation, with nine stations that use colored filters to change how you perceive the surrounding scenery.
