THE BROTHER CHURCH WITH NUN'S GALLERY
The Brother Church is known as the original church of Heiligkreuztal: it was the first to be built. The nun's gallery, the core of the nunnery, protrudes from the Brother Church into the monastery church. Since the mid-19th century, the gallery has been a Protestant place of worship.

CISTERCIAN CONVENT
The monastery was founded in 1227. 80 years earlier, a community of pious women had gathered in the neighboring village of Altheim, who were then allowed to join the Cistercian Order. The monastery was named after a precious relic, a splinter of the cross of Jesus, which Count Egon von Griningen-Landau donated. The construction of the Romanesque monastery in the place initially called "Wazzershaf" took almost twenty years.
