    Hiking

Pink Hill Trail heads almost due east staying fairly level with very minor elevation changes. Between the Loma Verde Wash and Monument Wash is Pink Hill, a small hill rising above the desert floor. Pink Hill is named for the iron rust found on the sides of the hill, giving it it's distinct color.

Embark on the Loma Verde Loop, a moderate hiking route that guides you through the iconic Sonoran Desert ecosystem. This 6.5-mile (10.5 km) trail, with a gentle elevation gain of 214 feet (65 metres), typically takes around 2 hours and 43 minutes to complete. As you hike, you will meander through groves of mesquite trees and washes, surrounded by massive saguaros, prickly pear, and ocotillo cacti. The experience culminates at the Pink Hill overlook, where you can take in panoramic vistas of the sprawling cactus forest and the distant Rincon Mountains. It offers a classic desert adventure, perfect for those looking to connect with nature.

When planning your visit to the Loma Verde Loop, be mindful that shade is minimal along the entire route. During the warmer months, it is highly recommended to start your hike early in the morning or later in the evening to avoid the intense midday heat. While the paths are generally well-marked, carrying a map is always a good idea due to the interconnected network of trails in the area. Ensure you bring plenty of water, especially on hotter days, to stay hydrated throughout your journey.

This trail provides an excellent opportunity to immerse yourself in the unique biodiversity of the Sonoran Desert. Keep an eye out for local wildlife such as Gila woodpeckers, jackrabbits, and javelina, which are often spotted along the route. The Loma Verde Loop is a prime example of the rich natural environment found within Saguaro National Park East, offering a serene escape into a landscape dominated by towering cacti and desert flora. It's a great way to experience the region's natural beauty without an overly strenuous climb.
