Embark on the Gold Lake and Pacific Crest Trail Loop, a moderate 8.2-mile (13.3 km) hike that takes you through a truly remote landscape. You will gain 1492 feet (455 metres) over an estimated 4 hours and 5 minutes, offering a rewarding backcountry experience. As you climb a ridge from Silver Lake, you'll enjoy expansive views to the east, including Jacks Meadow and Quincy in the distant hills, before reaching the stunning granite bowl of Mini Gold Lake.
While the overall route is moderate, be prepared for a more strenuous last half-mile to Mini Gold Lake, which involves some bushwhacking and rock scrambling. The shoreline around the lake itself can also be challenging to navigate due to rocks and overgrown trails. This hidden gem is perfect for a day hike, providing an excellent spot for a picnic lunch amidst secluded natural beauty.
This loop is nestled within the Bucks Lake Wilderness, promising a sense of deep seclusion and abundant photographic opportunities. The trail offers a unique chance to experience a section of the iconic Pacific Crest Trail, blending its renowned path with the pristine wilderness around Gold Lake. It's an ideal choice if you are seeking a genuine escape into nature away from crowded paths.
