The Fen Nature Trail offers a delightful and unique hiking experience, leading you through a Botanical Special Interest Area rich with diverse plant life. You'll wander past old-growth forests of pine and fir, then discover the trail's namesake fens—uncommon grassy wetlands fed by flowing streams. Look for the fascinating California pitcher plant and enjoy views of Kangaroo Lake and the Klamath Mountains from the ridge. It's a short, engaging route that feels like stepping into a living botanical garden.

This easy 1.4-mile (2.2 km) hiking route, with only 100 feet (30 metres) of elevation gain, takes about 35 minutes to complete. The trail is generally accessible, though not wheelchair friendly, and starts at a high elevation of around 6,000 feet. Parking is available near Kangaroo Lake Campground, and the best time to visit is from late spring to early autumn to catch the wildflowers and avoid snow.

What makes this trail truly special is its designation as a Botanical Special Interest Area, showcasing an incredible variety of plant communities, including rare species. It also provides access to the Pacific Crest Trail, offering options for longer adventures if you're feeling ambitious. This Fen Nature Trail hiking experience is a perfect way to appreciate the unique ecology of the Klamath National Forest.
