Johnny O'Leary was born in 1923 in Gneevguila, a village about 20 kilometers from Killarney. Johnny was Ireland's most acclaimed accordionist. He died in 2004.

This bronze life-size statue of Johnny O'Leary, (1923-2004), one of Irelands most famous accordion players, was unveiled in Killarney Town Centre, Co. Kerry, on April 28, 2007. Johnny O'Leary was famous for playing his distinctive style of Sliabh Luachra music and for bringing the rich Sliabh Luachra tradition to a much wider audience.
