With a calcium carbonate content of 98%, the former limestone reefs provided the raw material for the production of quicklime for building projects or as fertilizer lime in agriculture. The limestone rocks are also of great importance as groundwater reservoirs. The dolomite stones from this quarry were previously used as building stones. Source: information board on site
