Here on 06.03.1945 the remains of the 7 British soldiers were found who crashed with their Lancaster bomber after shelling from the flak position STEIDE. At this point first buried and later reburied to Kleve. The oldest 34 years, the youngest 20 years. They lost their lives because of a senseless war.

In memory of the deceased soldiers of a bomber, a cross with the names of the seven crew members of the crashed Lancaster was placed in Salzbergen's Steide district (October 2010). On the Vennweg - in the immediate vicinity of the Keienvenn - the soldiers who died on March 6, 1945 are commemorated. The missing person search group IKARUS wants to remember the deceased bomber crew with the cross and the plaque.
