It is located a few meters from the Mombarone refuge, close to the path. But I found it locked

Embark on the Monte Mombarone Christ Statue Trail (via Route 858), a difficult hike that challenges you with 3012 feet (918 metres) of elevation gain over 6.0 miles (9.6 km). This route typically takes around 5 hours and 9 minutes to complete. You will experience a dramatic change in scenery, starting in cool conifer forests before emerging into sunny alpine meadows dotted with wildflowers, then transitioning to rocky slopes as you ascend towards the summit. The trail offers a true mountain experience, culminating in panoramic views.

To begin your adventure, head to the parking area near Andrate, which serves as the trailhead for this popular route. While the trail is well-marked with red and white blazes, its challenging nature means you should plan your visit for good weather conditions and allow ample time for the ascent and descent. There are no specific permits or fees mentioned, but always check local regulations before you go, especially during peak seasons. Consider an early start to make the most of daylight and avoid afternoon crowds.

This historic trail follows a section of the legendary Ivrea-Mombarone race route, first run in 1922, drawing hikers to Monte Mombarone for over a century. At the summit, you will find the impressive 19-meter Christ the Redeemer statue, rebuilt in 1991, which stands as a prominent landmark. Nearby, the welcoming Rifugio Mombarone offers a place to rest and warm up, and the Bivacco Adriano Cosa provides an emergency shelter. From the top, you can enjoy sweeping 360-degree views, with Monte Rosa often visible on clear days.
