Kewaunee has a really pleasant coastline, with always beautiful wooden houses.

The city is also known for having the largest clock in the world. Made with redwood wood, this clock of 36 feet high was built in 1976. You find it at the beginning of the Ahnapee State Trail near the bridge.

Embark on the Ahnapee State Trail Loop for a moderate touring bicycle adventure spanning 37.8 miles (60.9 km). This route offers a peaceful ride through Wisconsin's varied landscapes, where you'll gain 539 feet (164 metres) of elevation over approximately 3 hours and 44 minutes. As you pedal, you'll pass through serene evergreen glades, expansive farmlands, and tranquil wooded sections. Keep an eye out for the scenic views of the Ahnapee and Kewaunee Rivers, with some parts of the trail skirting close to swamps. It's a journey that truly immerses you in nature's quiet beauty.

Before you set out, be aware that the trail surface is mainly crushed limestone or gravel, making it ideal for touring bicycles with wider tires, such as hybrids or mountain bikes. You will find parking and other amenities conveniently located at various access points along the route. A nice bonus for this trail is that you won't need a state trail pass to enjoy your cycling experience. Plan your visit to make the most of the accessible entry points.

This route provides a wonderful opportunity to observe local wildlife, including deer, turkey, and sandhill cranes, particularly around the Ahnapee State Trail section in Algoma. The trail's path through diverse ecosystems, from open fields to dense woods and riverbanks, highlights the natural heritage of the region. It stands out as a prime example of a rail-trail conversion, offering a smooth and accessible way to explore the Wisconsin countryside.
