A special highlight by the wayside is the Simsonbrunnen (Simson Fountain), which, with its long history, invites discovery right in the middle of the market square. Created in 1685, the fountain has been renewed several times over the centuries, thus telling a piece of living city history – from its original use as a drinking and utility water fountain to its current design. Particularly worth seeing is the Simson figure from 1979, created by the Gera artist Heinz Plath from Posta hard sandstone, which gives the fountain its characteristic appearance.
