    Hiking

Panther Ride Viewpoint is a popular hike, so if you hike the PCT you will probably meet lots of day hikers. The view is nice, but compared to all what you have already seen, you might ask yourself, if this is really the viewpoint.

    Hiking

This sunny ridge offers sweeping views of the mountains to the northwest and is a perfect spot to stop for lunch. The hike up through the old growth forest is well worth the effort.

Set out on a moderate hiking experience along the Pacific Crest Trail from Panther Creek, a journey that gains 1355 feet (413 metres) over 3.7 miles (5.9 km). This route, which takes around 1 hour and 54 minutes to complete, leads you through dense forests of Douglas firs and western hemlocks. The trail features switchbacks as it climbs, eventually opening up to more exposed areas. From these higher points, you are rewarded with panoramic views of the Cascade Range. On clear days, you might even spot the majestic Columbia River Gorge and Mount Adams, with the Panther Ridge Viewpoint offering a particularly good perspective.

To begin your hike, access the trailhead conveniently located near the Panther Creek Campground. While the Pacific Crest Trail trailhead can be subtle, downloading a GPS track before you go is a good idea. This helps ensure you stay on the correct path, especially since some connector trails might not be clearly marked. Planning ahead will help you enjoy your time on the trail without navigation worries.

This section of the Pacific Crest Trail offers a rewarding taste of the iconic long-distance route, ideal for day hikers. In late spring and early summer, the meadows along the trail burst with color from wildflowers like lupines and Indian paintbrush. The varied terrain, from shaded forest climbs to open viewpoints, makes this a dynamic and engaging hike. It provides a great opportunity to experience the natural beauty of the Gifford Pinchot National Forest.
