The church was built between 1829 and 1830 and is based on a design by the renowned Baden architect Heinrich Hübsch. It is a classic hall church, typical of the period.
The Church of the Cross is distinguished by its elongated nave and a bell tower set into the east end. The upper stories of the tower house both the bell frame and the clock. The ensemble is crowned by a tall pyramidal roof rising above a surrounding parapet.
The church belongs to the Evangelical Church in Baden and is part of the Pforzheim-City parish.

The church was built in 1829/30 in just 21 months according to plans by the later Baden court architect Heinrich Hübsch from Karlsruhe. The church was built on the initiative of Baron Julius von Gemmingen, who converted from the Catholic to the Protestant church in 1823 with a large part of his family and 220 people.
The parish office is across the street in the moated castle.
