You will start your journey in Mitchell Canyon, following a wide dirt fire road through a shady oak woodland, which is particularly vibrant with wildflowers and birdwatching opportunities in spring. As you ascend, the landscape transitions to steeper chaparral and grasslands, leading you towards the summit. This challenging adventure typically takes around 6 hours and 57 minutes to complete, offering rewarding panoramic views of the Bay Area and Central Valley from its upper sections, especially near Eagle Peak and the Summit Trail.

When planning your visit, be aware that parking at the Mitchell Canyon Staging Area requires a fee. The route involves many intersecting trails, so it is advisable to carry a map or use a navigation app to help you stay on track throughout your hike. This area is also known to have poison oak, so be mindful of your surroundings and take appropriate precautions. Consider starting early to make the most of your day and avoid the midday heat, especially during warmer months.
