The bastion has no longer been accessible as a military area in recent decades. It was not until 2003 that the rock was transferred back to the community of Rothenstein.
An active Rothenstein interest group cleared and secured the lookout point on the rock. The newly created view of the Saale Valley and the Leuchtenburg is fantastic.

The beautiful bastion with its many places to sit was built and maintained by the Rothensteiner Felsen e.V. interest group. It has a fantastic view towards Leuchtenburg and the Saale, among other places.
