The route to Pico La Maroma from El Robledal immerses you in a landscape that evolves from lush pine and oak forests to rugged limestone formations. As you ascend, the terrain becomes rockier and steeper, offering a varied and challenging hiking experience. The panoramic views from the summit of La Maroma are the crowning glory, with the Sierra Nevada and the Mediterranean stretching out before you.
This 16.4-kilometer hike, with an elevation gain of 968 meters, is a difficult route that will take approximately 5 hours and 55 minutes to complete. It is essential to carry sufficient water and food, as there are no resupply points. The El Robledal recreational area is the ideal starting point, and spring and autumn are the most recommended seasons to enjoy pleasant temperatures.
The trail is known for being one of the most direct routes to the summit of La Maroma, the highest peak in the province of Málaga. Along the way, you'll encounter unique features such as the "Contadero," a narrow pass, and the ancient "neveras," ice pits that give the mountain its name. It's an excellent choice for those seeking a demanding hiking adventure with a rich natural and cultural history.
