    Hiking

Legend has it that the name of this mountain (Lesima = Lesa manus) is that Annibale Barca injured his hand during a reconnaissance on its summit. True or false, the climb to its top offers a view of a magnificent landscape between the Oltrepò Pavese and Liguria.

Embark on a challenging hike along the Ghost Town Trail to Rovaiolo Vecchio, a difficult route that takes you through diverse landscapes. You will traverse beautiful chestnut and beech forests before reaching steep grassy pastures as you ascend towards Monte Lesima. The trail covers 11.6 miles (18.7 km) with a significant elevation gain of 4142 feet (1262 metres), offering spectacular panoramic views of the Val Boreca and Val Trebbia from the summit, marked by the distinctive ENAV radar. Expect a demanding day out, estimated to take around 7 hours and 29 minutes to complete.

Planning your visit requires good preparation; this is a hard hike, so you will need very good fitness, sure-footedness, and sturdy shoes. The continuous ascent, sometimes known as the "Vertical del Lesima," is physically demanding, and some sections can be slippery, especially during the descent due to steepness. Be aware of small, easy rock walls, some of which are equipped with a fixed rope to assist you. Always check weather conditions before you go, as this can impact trail safety.

This unique loop tour begins in Rovaiolo Vecchio, a fascinating ghost town that was abandoned in 1960, providing a historical and atmospheric start to your adventure. The journey combines natural beauty with a sense of history, making it a notable trail in the region for those who appreciate both challenging climbs and intriguing cultural sites. The contrast between the serene forests and the desolate ghost town adds a distinctive character to the route.
