The Kieler Schloßgarten directly on today's Ostseekai was created in the 16th century as a small Renaissance garden, to be then expanded in 1695 at the instigation of the Duchess Friederike Amalie to a baroque garden. In the middle of the 19th century, after a varied history, the Kieler Garten emerged as an English landscape garden, with landscape-sweeping paths and loose woody groups. After the Second World War, a large part of the park was used as a parking lot; only in 2006, the garden was restored as a whole plant.
