Mountaineering
The weather on Mount Olympus is notorious – not just in Greece, but among mountaineers throughout Europe.
The mountain rises almost 3,000 meters directly from the Aegean Sea's coastal plain.
This location causes warm, moist air from the sea to rise, and thunderstorms can form very quickly, especially in summer. The weather can change completely within 30 to 60 minutes.
