At 6km long and 0.8km wide Llyn Tegid is the largest natural lake in Wales. The glacial lake formed in the fault line between Bala and Tal-y-Llyn towards the end of the last ice age. The receding glacier left a recessional moraine which dammed the valley and created the lake.
Today it's a popular tourist and sport venue with lots of water sports and fishing on the lake and walking trails around it.

Llyn Tegid or Bala Lake is a large freshwater glacial lake in Snowdonia National Park. It was the largest natural body of water in Wales but it has been artificially raised to hold more water and supply the Llangollen canal.
