The exact age of the watermill on the Rodau River can no longer be determined. It is likely that a bark and oil mill existed on the opposite bank of the current mill building as early as 1465. However, this mill burned down in 1906.
Archival records show that around 1600, Bishop Philippus Sigismund built a grain mill on the site of the surviving mill building. The watermill was initially equipped with one waterwheel and later with a second.
