According to tradition, a miraculous image has been venerated at this place since 1704, and the “Old Image” wayside shrine was erected around 1826, but it had to be demolished due to severe dilapidation. Volunteers from Schnifis planned and then built this little church. In 1961 the chapel was consecrated in honor of St. Joseph. After the first statue of Joseph was stolen in 1994, today's statue of Karl Bischof from Satteins was dedicated to this chapel. Once a detour led past here in the direction of the Rhine Valley.
