After several years of planning operated from 1852 a ferry between the railway ports in Ruhrort and Homberg. First, the freight cars were brought to ramps on ramps, later with lifting towers. The lifting tower on Homberger page is still available: komoot.de/highlight/203259.
The railway port in Ruhrort is now used as a marina and dock for the inland shipping museum. The bridge over the harbor offers a wide view over the Rhine, to the mill pasture and the Friedrich-Ebert-Brücke.
