Vilstrup Church is a large whitewashed and leaded church that appears today as a cruciform church. The originally Romanesque nave received four Gothic extensions: a choir in the east, cross arms in the north and south and a tower in the west. At the same time as the expansion in the 15th century, the nave was provided with cross vaults. The tower has a lead-covered onion dome from a renovation around 1748 after the tower was struck by lightning and burned in 1680. A vestibule and a sacristy were added later.
