Architect Gerhardt Langmaack, Hamburg, designed the new Thomas Church, for which the foundation stone was laid on the Day of Repentance and Prayer in 1950. It was the first new church in Lübeck after the Second World War. Bishop Johannes Pautke consecrated the church at Pentecost on May 13, 1951. The St. Thomas Church, built of brick and wood, fits in well with the image of the district. The slender roof turret rises 25 meters. The external dimensions of the floor plan of the church are 27 by eleven meters, the ridge height is 12.50 meters.
