The tower, now quite dilapidated, dates from the 16th century and was part of a warning system against pirate raids that stretched around the island.
Looking northwest, you can make out the Torre d'Albarca and the Talaia Moreia, which also belonged to this warning system.
If the watchman spotted one or more pirate ships, he would light a fire, and the smoke or, at night, the light would alert armed men for defense.
The name Jaume probably goes back to Jaume II, whose father Jaume I conquered Mallorca from the Moors.

Depending on your physical condition, it takes about 40 - 60 minutes to get to the top of the tower from the Cala Agulla car park. The ascent is marked with red dots. In summer it is very hot above the pine forest and there is no shade anywhere. Be sure to take enough water with you and remember to wear a hat and sun protection!
