Piran, Slovenia's most beautiful coastal town, owes its development to its traditional salt pans, where high-quality salt is still harvested today. The town impresses with its medieval ring wall, church, and numerous cultural attractions.

The Piran salt pans, which were built in 804, included the salt pans in the area of today's Marina (Lucija, Portorož), the smaller Strunjan salt pans and the larger Sečovlje salt pans. The areas of the two preserved salt pans are now protected as landscape parks. The Strunjan Landscape Park inspires with its impressive cliff coast, while you can get to know the traditional salt production in the Sečovlje salt pans on guided tours or visit the salt works museum.
