The sandstone revetment of the towpath, still visible today and partially exposed, is quite old. Around 150 years ago, the systematic development of the towpath, colloquially known as the "dam," began in Loschwitz. Until then, this riverside path, the towpath workers' actual "work route," was a barely paved footpath.
