The Gate overlooks the current Via Quartieri, so called “because the“ Quarters ”of the urban militias opened on the right side of the road to Porta S. Pietro: nearby was a garretta where an officer stood guarding the aforementioned ancient gate. At the corner of this street, in the Caretti house which now opens onto Via XX Settembre n. 46 the famous painter Cosimo Tura, known as Cosmè, lived: the house was given to him in 1462 by Duke Borso d'Este ”.
