The Spee-Haus was probably built between 1530 and 1600.
It is known that the house was purchased by Count Hermann von Hatzfeld in 1637. His son settled here after the Peace of Westphalia in 1648.
Other owners are the eponymous Spee, and later that of Hillesheim.
