Embark on the Monte Crostis Loop from Val Alba, a difficult hike that promises extraordinary and wild scenery. This challenging route covers 9.1 miles (14.6 km) and involves a significant elevation gain of 3296 feet (1005 metres), requiring about 6 hours and 52 minutes to complete. You will traverse high above the Rio Alba valley, pass through beautiful beech forests, and climb steep, rocky sections, offering a true mountain experience.
To tackle this demanding trail, you need very good fitness, sure-footedness, and sturdy hiking shoes. Be prepared for exposed sections, including a narrow rocky ridge, and ensure you have alpine experience before setting out. The area is less frequented, which means you can expect a solitary mountain experience, allowing you to fully immerse yourself in nature.
From the summit of Monte Crostis, you will be rewarded with vast panoramic views of the entire Val Alba Natural Reserve, including the Zuc del Bor and the deep valley of the Rio Simon. The route also offers glimpses of the secluded basin of Casera Crostis and the impressive confluence of the Fella and Tagliamento rivers from higher elevations. This hike is a highlight for anyone seeking a rugged adventure in the region.
