Signposts are for orientation in the Heidelberg city forest. It has been around for over 100 years when Heidelberg became a recreational forest. Today they are looked after by an association on a voluntary basis. They indicate the direction, destination and location. The pilgrims can access the system themselves or download the flyer from the HD Forest.

Hiking

These signpost stones are small cultural-historical monuments that are typical for the area around Heidelberg. They have their origins in the "Forest Commission", which decided at the end of the 19th century to design such stones in order to provide an "infrastructure" in the city forest for spa and recreation guests.
There are around 800 of these stones, which are now maintained by volunteers. More information here: wegweisersteine.de
