The statues are of high symbolic and also financial value for the Leipzig Zoo: two angry bulls with their tamer, a spring nymph, a beautiful bather, and an impressively contorting athlete. The most valuable is likely the Jason group by sculptor Walter Lenck, a larger-than-life bronze sculpture. And "The Athlete" by Leipzig-born artist Max Klinger, who is considered "the German Rodin", would also probably fetch a six-figure sum on the art market. 71 years after the end of the war, Johannes Gebbing junior, son of the former zoo director, is now laying claim to the artworks.

Jason group by the Berlin sculptor Werner Lenck. The son of the former Leipzig zoo director Johannes Gebbing sued the city of Leipzig in 2017 to return the statues and other works of art, including those by Max Klinger, because of his father's alleged ownership rights. The lawsuit was dismissed in two instances. This allows the statues to remain in their original place.
