The Castle of the Unnamed, historically known as Rocca di Vercurago, is perched on a height in the hamlet of Somasca (Vercurago), about 5 kilometers from Lecco. The thirteenth-century fortress is famous throughout Italy for having inspired Alessandro Manzoni in his masterpiece I Promessi Sposi as the impregnable dwelling of the "terrible man", the Unnamed, and as the place of Lucia's imprisonment.
