In 2002, the peace oak had to be felled. The stump was transformed into a dragon tree by chainsaw artists Thomas Hartmann, Gilbert Biek, Lorenz Tacke, Edgar Krieg and Christian Wehner, commemorating the dragon boat races that have taken place since 2003.
