he building was constructed from 1896 to 1897 according to plans by architect Wilhelm Franz as a municipal gymnasium with a fire station on the ground floor. The gym was on the first floor and was used by the St. Johann gymnastics association. In 1982 the gymnasium became the second largest theater stage of the Saarland State Theater with 240 seats. Ballet, concerts and readings are mainly used for drama.
