    Hiking

The Marmitte dei Giganti are particular natural sculptures: the water has scratched the rock to create gigantic spherical shapes.

    520m

Embark on a moderate 10.1-mile (16.2 km) hike that takes you through the diverse Apennine landscape. You will gain 1698 feet (518 metres) in elevation, with the full route typically completed in about 4 hours and 53 minutes. The trail winds through forested areas of beech and chestnut trees, offering shade, and features the unique Marmitte dei Giganti, where ancient rock pools and waterfalls are carved by the Vona river. You will also pass through green hills and alongside clear streams.

This longer route requires good fitness and sure-footedness; ensure you wear sturdy hiking shoes. While a shorter section leading directly to the Marmitte dei Giganti is family-friendly, the entire trail is considered more challenging. The Marmitte dei Giganti are especially impressive in spring and autumn, when higher water levels enhance the waterfalls and pools, making these seasons ideal for your visit.

Beyond the geological marvels of the Marmitte dei Giganti, the trail offers a journey through time, passing by abandoned villages that whisper tales of the past. The route culminates at the historic Church of San Cristoforo, providing a cultural landmark to your outdoor adventure. This trail uniquely blends natural beauty with historical intrigue, showcasing the powerful erosive forces of the Vona river and the enduring spirit of the region.
