While other dams have a very specific shape, designed to withstand enormous water pressures, this dam was built in a pyramid shape. The water pressure exerted on this dam is restrained by the weight of the structure itself. It has a twin dam nearby. This dam was completed in 1858 and was one of the most formidable dams of its day.

The Lac des Settons dam is the oldest in Morvan. It was built in the 18th century to facilitate the transport of logs to the Paris region, in order to heat Paris. This method was used for more than 300 years, until 1850. Today, the Lac des Settons dam is a tourist spot where you can cycle around.
