Hiking

Hohenfels Castle is the ruins of a hilltop castle at 545 m above sea level, located in the "Beutelfels" nature reserve north of the municipality of Imsbach in the Donnersberg district of Rhineland-Palatinate. The castle is accessible via a steep path from the "Weiße Grube" visitor mine in the Langental valley, past the Iron Man monument. More information at: de.wikipedia.org/wiki/Burg_Hohenfels_(Pfalz)

There's not much left to see of the ruins.
You can get an idea of what it once looked like. The information board is helpful.

Hiking

It is unclear when Hohenfels Castle was built, but it is certain that the complex, originally belonging to Prüm Abbey, was already the fiefdom and ancestral seat of a ministerial family in the 11th century.
