    Hiking

The Siegestor is a triumphal arch in Munich with a total height of 24 meters. The quadriga on the archway stands out here in a very special and visible way - it shows the Bavaria framed by four lions.
The gate is located about one kilometer north of the Feldherrnhalle and separates the Ludwigstraße, which ends there, from the Leopoldstraße and is thus the border between the districts of Maxvorstadt and Schwabing.

Highlight for me at present also the Ambigramm sculpture of the artist Florentine white from steel, with rusty surface: Love - Hate ... a emblematic message!

The Siegestor is a large round arched gate built around 1850, modeled on the Arch of Constantine in Rome. Ludwig I built the gate to honor the Bavarian army. The Siegestor, the Munich triumphal arch, is the transition from Ludwigstraße to Leopoldstraße. In addition, the Siegestor forms the northern end of a visual axis that begins with the Feldherrenhalle at Odeonsplatz. North of the Siegestor begins the Leopoldstraße, the main boulevard of the trendy Schwabing district. On the Siegestor you can see a bronze sculpture of Bavaria with four lions looking out of town.

„Dedicated to victory, destroyed by war, reminding of peace“. This is the inscription that can be read from Maxstadt. It is worth seeing for this reason alone.

After the damage in the Second World War, the gate was neither completely demolished (because it was out of time) nor was it restored to its previous state and renovated (because it belongs to German history).
Very successful and, of course, an eye-catcher in the middle of the long street axis.
