Beinn Lora Summit

Hiking

5.0

(31)

Compared with the giant mountains to the east, Beinn Lora is a just wee hill, at 1,010 feet (308 m). But this wee hill, rising above Loch Linnhe and the village of Benderloch, punches way above its weight. With the spectacular mountains of Glen Etive and Glencoe crowding the panorama to the east and with Loch Linnhe, Lismore and the Isle of Mull to the west, this is a view finer than many a Munro.

A charming little hill with view across Loch Linnhe, to Lismore and the Isle of Mull

Beinn Lora occupies a splendid position above the peninsula created by the mouths of Loch Etive, Loch Creran and the huge Loch Linnhe. Directly to the west, Ardmucknish Bay takes a bite out of the land and beyond this is a famously beautiful Isle of Mull.

The hike up Beinn Lora from Benderloch is a marvellous, family-friendly route, snaking up alongside beech trees to the Eagles’ Eyrie viewpoint before making easier progress to the summit. Its final stages can be boggy, so wear appropriate footwear. The whole thing can easily slot into a couple of hours, making the summit an ideal place to watch the sun set beyond Mull, before descending back to the village.

Bring a packed lunch, as there are plenty of superb spots to stop and eat, including picnic tables. Benderloch has a few accommodation options and there are more in nearby Connel.
