The west coast of Eiderstedt is characterized by sand banks, dunes and salt marshes. The Schleswig-Holstein Wadden Sea National Park (designated as a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 2009), the Katinger Watt and the seal banks in the Wadden Sea are very popular ecological attractions. It is a paradise for bird watchers because many species of birds settle here during the breeding season.
