There is a pilgrimage chapel in Niederdonk, which is connected to the old village church in Büderich on this old pilgrimage route. It suggests that the Lower Rhine used to be very Catholic. After industrialization and immigration from the former (predominantly Protestant) eastern areas, one would not expect so much Christian cultural heritage in this area. Meerbusch is now one of the many dormitory towns (suburbs) around Düsseldorf and has grown accordingly inorganically.
