    Snowshoeing

Beautiful property in an isolated position at the foot of the Alpe di Succiso.
Only the emergency room is always open, while access to the bivouac is possible upon reservation and key collection at Coop Valle dei Cavalieri, Via Caduti XXV Novembre, Succiso di Ramiseto (RE), tel. 0522/892346 (check that there have been no changes).
Ideal for self-management trips given the presence of a kitchen in the bivouac.
Water is not a negligible problem: there is a spring that may not be reachable in winter and dry in summer.

    950m

The Alpe di Succiso da Succiso il Nuovo loop hike offers a challenging yet rewarding journey through the Northern Apennines. This difficult route spans 8.2 miles (13.2 km) with a significant elevation gain of 3124 feet (952 metres), typically taking around 5 hours and 38 minutes to complete. You will traverse diverse terrain, moving from dense beech forests to rocky sections and exposed ridge paths, especially as you approach the summit. Keep an eye out for the quiet Lago di Monte Acuto and the historic Sentiero Barbarossa as you make your way.

Planning your visit requires good preparation; this is a hard hike demanding very good fitness, sure-footedness, sturdy shoes, and some alpine experience. While much of the path is accessible, certain sections on the ridge are slightly exposed, and climbs require caution, particularly if there is snow. You should be prepared for varied surfaces and be aware that the rocky channel can be more challenging under snowy conditions. Always check local conditions before you head out.

Alpe di Succiso is one of the highest and most rugged peaks in the Northern Apennines, standing just over 2000 meters. Its unique pyramidal structure, carved by large gullies, makes it a distinctive landmark for experienced hikers. From the summit, you can enjoy expansive panoramic views that stretch from the sea all the way to the Alps on clear days. The route also passes by significant features like the Bivacco Ghiaccioni, built from the ruins of a World War I structure, adding a touch of history to your alpine adventure.

Embark on a challenging hike through the wild Northern Apennines, a demanding route that covers 6.6 miles (10.6 km) with a significant elevation gain of 3019 feet (920 metres). This difficult trail typically takes around 4 hours and 47 minutes to complete. You will begin in high-altitude meadows at Casarola Saddle, offering expansive panoramic views, before descending through dense beech forests and passing the distinctive, rock-layered peak of Alpe di Succiso.

When planning your visit, be aware that the descent from Sella di Casarola is steep and requires careful attention, though it is not technically difficult. If you are considering this trail in winter, be prepared for very demanding conditions; specialized equipment like crampons and ice axes may be necessary due to snow and ice. The route also passes by the Rio Pascolo Bivouac, which often has an unstaffed winter room available for use.

This route offers a diverse journey through the Parco Nazionale dell'Appennino Tosco-Emiliano. Beyond the forests and mountain peaks, you will encounter the unique Sorgenti del Secchia, a beautiful grassy basin featuring streams and pools, before reaching the Rio Pascolo valley. It is a great way to experience the varied natural environment of this protected area.
