The most famous "son" of the city of Schweinfurt is undoubtedly the poet and orientalist Friedrich Rückert.

Friedrich Rückert was born on May 16, 1788 in Schweinfurt. His father Adam Rückert, who moved to Schweinfurt from the Hildburghausen area and also temporarily worked in Oberlauringen, died in Schweinfurt in 1831. He was buried together with his wife Barbara, who died in 1835, in the old cemetery in Schweinfurt, where you can still find a memorial stone today.

In 1810 he was accepted into the Freemason Lodge in Hildburghausen.

Johann Michael Friedrich Rückert was a linguistic genius - he spoke more than 40 languages and is considered one of the co-founders of Oriental Studies in Germany. J. M. Friedrich Rückert was also an extraordinarily productive writer. To date, there has been no academic publication of his complete works.

In 1788 he was born in this house on the market square. The elaborately designed plaque on the house facade is a reminder of this. Not far from here there is also a large monument erected in 1890 on the market square.
