Flight operations ceased in 1994. As much as some individuals are happy about it, it is a bitter loss for the city as a whole. Revenues and the number of jobs are falling rapidly. In 2005, some non-flying Bundeswehr units were still stationed. Military use of the air base ended on December 31, 2008.
