    Hiking

A magical place. The refuge and the lake are not to be missed. It seems like a fairy tale.

    Hiking

Located at 2516 meters above sea level, when the weather is clear you have a wonderful view of the northeastern mountains of the Kofel and Sella groups.

Climb to Lake Antermoia from Campitello di Fassa — Round trip

    19.7km

    1,250m

Embark on a difficult 12.2-mile (19.7 km) round trip hike from Campitello di Fassa, a journey that rewards you with expansive views of the Dolomites. This route involves a substantial 4091 feet (1247 metres) of elevation gain and typically takes around 7 hours and 55 minutes. You will traverse varied terrain, from initial gravel roads to steeper paths through small woods and scree-covered sections. As you climb, enjoy panoramas of peaks like Sassolungo and Sassopiatto, culminating in the majestic blue waters of Lake Antermoia, nestled in a glacial basin. The trail offers 360-degree views of the Catinaccio, Latemar, and even Marmolada from higher elevations.

This difficult hike requires very good fitness, sure-footedness, and sturdy hiking shoes. To make the initial part less strenuous, consider taking a shuttle bus from Campitello di Fassa to Rifugio Micheluzzi. This option can save you about an hour and a half of walking and some of the initial ascent. Even with the shuttle, the path from Rifugio Micheluzzi to Lake Antermoia remains moderately challenging, with steep and arduous sections, especially towards Passo delle Ciaregole. You will encounter several mountain huts, including Rifugio Micheluzzi, Baita Lino Brach, and Rifugio Antermoia, which offer opportunities for rest and refreshments.

Lake Antermoia is a significant natural attraction, often described as a pearl in the heart of the Catinaccio. Unlike many glacial lakes, its crystal-clear, majestic blue waters do not dry up in summer, as it is fed by underground springs. The lake is sometimes referred to as heart-shaped, adding to its unique appeal. The route crosses several passes, such as Passo delle Ciaregole and Passo di Dona, providing diverse landscapes throughout your journey.
