Hiking

In 1186 Grissian is first mentioned in a document. The glittering center of Grissian, the church of St. James was inaugurated in 1142 and donated by a nobleman named Rudolf. Why this Adelsmann Rudolf donated this church, high above the gorge of the Grissianer Grabens, is not known.

The church of Saint James is very well preserved, but the small tower dates back to the 15th century. Romanesque murals from around 1200 and 15th-century Gothic murals decorate the interior of the church.

One of the few small and exposed churches above Prissian / Tisens which is open every day. Unfortunately, and as observed several times in this area, the affiliated Mesner property is subject to decay.
