    Cycling

Trout Creek Wilderness Park is a gem just north of Tampa. There are paved paths, dirt roads, singletrack trails, and everything in between. Most of the paths are smooth, so you can't really get into too much trouble just riding around on skinny tires.

Embark on an easy touring cycling adventure along the Wilderness Park Main Trail Loop, a straightforward ride covering 13.8 miles (22.2 km) with a gentle 90 feet (27 metres) of elevation gain. You can expect to complete this route in about 1 hour and 57 minutes, enjoying diverse Florida habitats. The trail winds through serene landscapes, passing by Trout Creek and offering glimpses of lakes and river access. You'll cycle under the pleasant canopy of oak and pine trees, moving through cypress swamps and pine flatwoods, with opportunities to spot local wildlife.

When planning your visit, remember that this is a multi-use trail system, so you will share the path with hikers and runners; always be considerate of others. Parking is generally available at access points, such as Trout Creek Wilderness Park, making it convenient to start your ride. Be aware that while the main loop is easy, some natural surface sections might be challenging due to roots or become wet after rain. Volunteer trail stewards are often present on-site to assist if you need help.

This route offers a unique opportunity to immerse yourself in the Lower Hillsborough Wilderness Preserve's varied ecosystems. As you cycle, you'll experience the transition between cypress swamps, hardwood floodplain forests, and pine flatwoods, all within a single ride. The trail's design provides a shaded experience for much of the journey, making it a pleasant escape into nature. It's an excellent choice if you are looking for a tranquil ride through Florida's natural beauty without significant climbing.
